Secretary Huang bounces off the ropes and opens a can of whup-ass!
Well, sort of.
Letters to the editor: Technology job has shown results
January 5, 2006
In the Dec. 19 editorial, "So far, so good," the Daily Press said of incoming state Secretary of Technology Aneesh Chopra: "If he manages to contribute something useful to state government, he will have achieved more than his predecessors." Ouch. As the current secretary, I hope you'll give me a few drops of ink to justify my existence.

At least he didn't blame everything on the state employees as usual!
But he also kept the story alive, generally a bad PR move. And the last sentence comes across as bitter, whiny and defensive. Virginia's IT stature declined under his leadership (to fifth... not bad, but lower than second), and it's agencies, not VITA, Huaung or the award-winning portal, that handle the credited 100 online services accessible 24/7. Wouldn't those services - maybe even more of them - have gone live anyway as the Web became more prominent?
Typical.
I think they were live anyway. I'm not sure why VITA takes any credit for them. The agencies have done the work. VITA just hooks them together by having links... Well, until they took over the servers. DMV was rockin' and rollin' long before VITA was a blink in Warner's radar. Taxation in-sourced without VITA, etc. Where does Huang get the credit? Maybe for paying NG and CGI-AMS to come to Va? Great!
Anyway, what's the deal with nano and bio technology? Why is the new SoTech, Kaine and Warner gushing over it so much? I know nothing about it...
I did some "investigating" and most of the 100 credited services either pre-existed Secretary Huang, pre-existed VITA, or were in the works before any of them. In fact, the exact number of online services is a bit vague; the number quoted seems to have been thrown together based on what the virginia.gov site links to.
any murmurings amongst the ranks regarding who's jumping ship when Northrop comes in?
