Virginia Education Costs Too Much

HARRISONBURG — A college education in Virginia costs too much, especially for low- and middle-income families.

That’s according to an independent study released last week by the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education. In their "report card," found at highereducation.org, the special interest education group gave Virginia an "F" for its ability to deliver affordable public and private higher education.

The center says that college affordability in Virginia has declined since the early 1990s and that now, Virginia families must devote a "sizable share" of their family income, even after financial aid, to afford to send their child to college.
