Saw this article too...
I think they forgot to add all the incentives Northrop will be getting... And all the "extra" fees for the "out of scope" work. They always make it sound like NG is investing millions of their own personal money to see our goals reached... Isn't that sweet of them? Just like Mom and Pop? Uhhhh, how much are they really investing that they aren't going to get back twofold? I find it hard to believe NG is going to shell out millions for little old us... I hope someone will keep the flame burning after the deal is done and find out how much the taxpayers actually had to pay to get rid of a couple hundred honest, hardworking employees and create a "legacy" for a politician who doesn't seem to know how real working people live.
If Northrop Grumman is truly able to bring such a great deal to the table, why can't the big-wigs at VITA do the same? Just a few months ago they were on pedestals and everyone was saying how great they are. The budget is there, the workers are there... the only things missing are a plan and effective management!
"If it's well executed," the governor said, Virginia's information systems re-engineering will be a "very positive legacy"
"...You can't leave this to the IT folks," he said.
Niiice. I guess all the awards and existing services just sprung from the head of Zeus?
He must be asserting they sprung from the head of Warner!
It's interesting... I looked everywhere on the net last night for past employees of Northrop and could find only comments from 1 employee that no longer worked there. Their comment was that Northrop NEVER fires anyone. If you look around for almost any other large company, you will at least find a few disgruntled ex-employees. I also noticed that most of their job listings require either secret or top secret security. Either the VITA employees have really lucked out or secret security clearance doesn't allow people to talk about their employment.
Secret or level 2 clearance would keep you from talking about your employment, definately. More so than any non-disclosure agreement.
The Sensible Center by Mark Warner...
Is this really the same guy we know?
...We feel like we're paying too much at the pump. We feel like we're spending too much time away from home. We worry that our jobs may be outsourced to Bangalore.
... budgeting tactics of simply taking the costs off the balance sheet.
...the heroes are political operatives whose only goal is to find the nastiest way to ruin their opponents, even if at the cost of our national security
...We start by simply telling the truth; by being straight with people on issues from fiscal matters.
Is he kidding? Who is it that just outsourced all the IT employees in state government? Who is the guy that publishes fuzzy numbers to back fuzzy deals? Who wouldn't lower state taxes when gas prices were flying high? Who endorsed a candidate in one of the nastiest mud-slinging competitions known to man?
Less than 15 percent of our high school students take enough science and math to qualify for any kind of engineering or advanced science in college.
Why would they study to become engineers when Warner is pushing to outsource all the IT jobs?
In Virginia, we have put down 700 miles of broadband in our rural communities so folks don't have to leave home to find a quality job
Huh? What in the world does broadband have to do with finding a decent job especially since no one can afford it once the lines get to your neighborhood?
All that mumbo-jumbo about putting so much money into education? My daughter's school can't even afford paper and glue but every student has a laptop! Hers hasn't worked for weeks but the "highly experienced technician" hasn't been available. It doesn't matter anyway. They don't even use the laptops for anything!
Ridiculous!!!!!
